Listening is a task in which candidates try to perform with a quick step, but listening needs more patience, time, and work. Therefore, a learner needs to concentrate on uphill questions carefully and check their spellings too. Likewise, a listener should develop the habit of unbreakable concentration as well as avoid to get stuck on missed questions rather than understand the accent of speaker.

Listening module inIELTS test requisites 40 minutes duration in total, therefore, a learner gets 30 minutes to complete allthe 4 sections and 10 minutes to transfer the answer inthe given answer sheet.

There are foursections in listening, and each section is related to a different topicwhich is as follows:

Section 1:

The first section is associated with the personaldetails of two individuals, which account for booking details, traveling information, and accommodation details.

Section 2:

The second section related to the non-academic monologue inwhich a person delivers a speech. Moreover, it consists of conversations aboutcampus or arrangements for meals during a conference.

Section 3:

The third section is correlated with an academic monologue, which indulges conversation among 2 to 4 people. It is a conversation between atutor and a student about an assignment, or between three students planning aresearch project at a University.

Section 4:

The final part is another monologue, which is alecture or talk of general academic interest such as a University lecturer. This particular section is slightly difficult and tricky as compared to othersections, as it contains a maximum number of paraphrased sentences and isspoken a bit fast.

Question types:

1.     multiple choice

2.     short-answer questions

3.     sentence completion

4.     notes/summary/diagram/flow chart/tablecompletion

5.     diagram labeling

6.     classification

7.     matching

Easy ways to improveyour IELTS listening score:

  • A student should carefully listen to a suitable answer, but before writing it down, such as articles (a, an, the) should be considered, as the speaker will not clear any mistake.

  • Be careful about singular and plural words.

  • Look for signpost words such as but, although, additionally, so, despite, however, and so on as these words are specially used to disguise the listener.

  • In multiple-choice type question, there is ambiguity among the listener about the correct answer, as all choices are spoken, which creates a dilemma.
