The blog How to score more in Academic Reading? refers to the eagerness of students determined to achieve a good band score in reading which is always challenging. So, providing them some insights of solving reading module in order to make it easier for their IELTS preparations. Considering this, I have given written this blog so that one can turn his/her negative points into forte.

“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”

In the modern era, it is always debatable that what we should do in order to be competent in IELTS READING? Teachers at various institutes use different tips and techniques to help students to accomplish their target band score.

In IELTS Reading is always considered to be a hard nut to crack in comparison to the other modules in academics. There are a lot of tips and strategies we need to work on before taking an exam, for example, speed reading, skimming, and scanning, try not to understand the whole passage, picking keywords, know your weakness, learning vocabulary and of course, the most important one practice. Today, I will do my best to keep it simple and realistic for you. So let’s start………..

EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT (YOU SHOULD NOT STRESS ABOUT IT):

Everyone should practice it while solving a reading module by enforcing a strict time frame of 15 minutes for first two sections even though other books suggest you 20 minutes because first two sections need skimming and scanning. And you need more time for last section as it requires a bit more than skimming and scanning.

DO NOT BOTHER READING THE PASSAGE:

First, read the question and circle the keywords and then try to find those keywords/synonyms. Here skimming and scanning will work for you. You should not even waste time reading section 3 (just read the text related to the question).

DO NOT OVERTHINK:

Go with your gut feeling, you do not have time to overthink or over analyze as it leads to stress.

FOR HEADINGS:

You should only read the first and last sentence of the paragraph. A related keyword or synonym should be there to help you find the answer. You can start practicing this by reading 2 sentences from the beginning and end.

PRACTISE MAKES A MAN PERFECT:

Even you are always advised to practice more and more. I personally think it makes no difference if do not learn from your incorrect answers. So you should look at your mistake and then compare it with the right answer and realize where you made the mistake.

Hope this will help you in your future endeavors of achieving your target score. So, start practicing and analyzing your mistakes now onwards.
